La Vita

Cenne da la Chitarra o Cene, nato ad Arezzo prima del 1300 e morto ivi tra il 1322 e il 1336 fu un poeta e cantore (giullare). Il suo vero nome sembra fosse Bencivenni. L'epiteto "da la chitarra" gli venne dallo strumento musicale col quale accompagnava il canto dei suoi versi.

The Life

Poet and minstrel, born in Arezzo, Tuscany, NW Italy. His 13 sonnets portray the life of the common people in a realistic way, while satirizing the aristocracy. In a parody of Folgore da San Giminiano's Mesi, he lists the annoying features, as opposed to the merits, of the different months.
